178: In line with an Uzbek presidential decree, World War II veterans will receive 500,000 sums, or $178 at the black market rate, on 9 May, the Day of Memory and Honour (formerly marked as the Victory Day). Last year World War II veterans received 400,000 sums ($140 at the then rate). 29.04.13

14: The 72-year-old writer and opposition member Mamadali Mahmudov was released on 19 April after serving a 14-year prison term. Mahmudov was arrested on 26 February 1999, 10 days after the terrorist attacks in Tashkent when six explosions went off in the centre of the city. He was accused under several articles of the Criminal Code, but the main guilt was his friendship with the Erk party leader, Muhammad Salih. 22.04.13

4: Police in Tashkent have launched a hunt for the 54-year-old Valentina Pleshakova, the owner of four houses in the capital. She was last attacked on 10 April when she was returning home on Tashkent’s small ring road. She believes she is being pursued because police want to take away her properties. 19.04.13
