Violence used routinely at Tashkent school
Uznews.net – Parents say that violence is used routinely against their children in Tashkent’s school No 208. The number of parents who have failed to bring school officials to justice for using violence against children has reached 37.

The school’s director, Gulrano Jurayeva, has won all cases brought by parents.

In addition to violence, the school extorts money from pupils for various purposes, parents said. They also said that the school administration demanded up to $500 for issuing good academic transcripts.

“I am the 37th parent who was tried after Jurayeva brought a lawsuit,” Igor Ahmetov, a parent, said. He was fined 1.2 million sums ($600) after two children beat up his son in school No 208.

Another parent Yuriy Kurenkov managed to put Jurayeva in the dock after she applied force against his son and injured his neck. She was charged with inflicting bodily injuries and abusing her power.

However, Tashkent’s Mirzo-Ulugbek district court acquitted her on 16 April 2009.

When parents complained to the education authorities about Jurayeva’s use of force against children, they were told that bodily harm should not be inflicted on children but this was not stipulated in the law, so they could not take any measure against the school director.
