Returned refugee on trial in Andijan
Uznews.net – Refugee from Andijan, Dilorom Abdukadirova, who returned home from exile in Australia, looked morally broken and without a hijab at yesterday’s trial at the Andijan town court.

Her relatives were able to see her for the first time at the trial since her surprise detention on 12 March 2010.

Her son Mirolim said that Abdukadirova, 44, looked troubled, tired and sick. “They removed her hijab, we are sure they did it for purpose,” he said.

Relatives said that forcing to remove a hijab was as much as torture for the woman, but they did not rule out that she might have faced other methods of pressure and violence.

At the trial Abdukadirova did not look at her relatives when she told the judge that she admitted her guilt, relatives said.

They think that she could not wilfully admit her guilt, because she committed no crime.

The refugee, who returned from exile in Australia in January, was charged with crossing the border illegally, attempting to overthrow the constitutional system and taking part in riots.

Her relatives believe that it will be hard to win this case in Andijan because the charges are trumped up and they will not be allowed to hire an independent lawyer, while a government-appointed lawyer was appointed for show.

Dilorom Abdukadirova fled Andijan, leaving her husband and four children behind, to Kyrgyzstan when government troops opened fire on peaceful protesters in Andijan on 13 May 2005, killing hundreds of people.
