Uzbekistan starts torturing Jehovah's Witnesses
Police in Uzbekistan have for the first time used torture against a Jehovah's Witness, a 54-year-old woman from Horezm Region, by suffocating her to force a confession to importing religious literature.

Gulchehra Abdullayeva, a resident of the village of Muhayo in Hazarasp District in Horezm Region, has decided to go public over details of her detention and trial, the Forum 18 religious news agency has reported.

As a Jehovah's Witness, she complained to four state agencies and the United Nations over torture she faced.

On 25 July, the Hazarasp District court fined her five times the minimum monthly wage (316,000 sums, or about $120).

The judge found Abdullayeva, who works as a paediatrician, guilty of violating Article 241 of the Code of Administrative Offence - "violation of rules of teaching religious beliefs”.

In her complaints, the woman said that her confession was forced.

Abdullayeva was arrested on 15 July, two weeks after she had returned from Kazakhstan where she had been on a private visit.

She was detained by officers led by Captain Atahan Boltayev from the local criminal investigation police department.

Officers insisted that Abdullayeva had smuggled books about Jehovah’s Witnesses from Kazakhstan and demanded that the woman hand them over to the authorities.

After Abdullayeva said that she had not brought back any religious publications, police searched her home without a warrant.

Failing to find anything, policemen demanded that Abdullayeva hand over at least some kind of religious literature.

Abdullayeva, just as many other Jehovah’s Witnesses in Uzbekistan, does not keep religious books at home.

After being plainly refused, officers took her to a police station where they made her stand up for four hours without water, while the temperature was over 40 degrees, and put a gas mask over her head and blocked air supply.

Abdullayeva was not able to withstand the torture and wrote a statement saying she was a Jehovah's Witness.

This was the first case of a Jehovah’s Witness being tortured in Uzbekistan, Forum 18 noted, citing its sources among other Jehovah's Witnesses.

Sal,I have a question for you. When Satan rebelled against God, did conditions remain the same for him? Was he even allowed to stay in heaven? What is destined to happen to him soon? That is what happen to rebels in a family. Also due to his arrogance, he has no forgiveness of sins left. Do you see the similarity to apostasy.

I was a JW for 44 years and decided it was not for me and my family anymore. My whole jw family cut me off dead, I am a apostate just cuz I dare to ask a few questions about current things going on in the Kingdum hells. This is not the way loving family treat people ! I have not seen my dad in over year and all my other siblings in 4 years just cuz I don't beleive the same as them now. What kind of people are these that shun there own family just to keep the 7 old men in charge happy in New York. Read UP ON THE JW'S AND YOU WILL SEE THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN A BIG REAL ESTATE BUISNESS MASKARADING AS A RELIGION AND GET ALL THE TAX FREE PERKS. I hate the WTBTS. They hide known peodophiles also so have a look at that on google too.Don't open the door to them they are dangerous and will split your family up just like what happened to me

Someone, above, said "everything Sal Homer said is false". I was born into, and remained one of Jehovah's witnesses, for 54 years, and I say, Sal Homer is very accurate.

Dishonesty is shown in the above comments, but, it is coming from Jehovah's witnesses. Why do they find it necessary, whenever commenting, to say, "I am not one of Jehovah's witnesses, but" as one post above:

"I am not a jehovahs witness but I will say this, everything they say is the truth and it is such a shame that the brothers and sisters are being persecuted because they see the light and believe the truth."

"everything they say is truth"?? and, "brothers and sisters"?

Really, look at the lengths Jehovah's witnesses have to go to to give themselves compliments.

I do not condone torture against anyone, but, ask any former Jehovah's witness if they think it is a "torture" to be cut off from all family members and friends when they decide to leave the Jehovah's witnesses organization. And, that happens because of the teachings of Jehovah's witnesses and the Watchtower Society.

Still sounds hypocritical and two-faced to appeal for help to an agency someone believes is run by Satan the devil.

That is disgusting treat of ANYONE!! Let alone a woman of peace. I am horrified that a government today has learned nothing from WW1 and WW2. I thought the human race has matured. I guess not. This government should be ashamed of themselves.!

I am not a jehovahs witness but I will say this, everything they say is the truth and it is such a shame that the brothers and sisters are being persecuted because they see the light and believe the truth. I feel bad for you that talk down on the witnesses because one day you all will see that they were just trying to save you from satan and trying to help you understand about the one and only true God Jehovah, so to end this I will keep you all in my prayers that one day you will accept Jehovah before it is to late

Of course Jehovah's Witnesses believe in religious freedom. Unlike other religions in the US especially Protestant religions, they don't try to legislate their beliefs on the rest of society.

In fact in many cases they have helped shape freedom of speech and worship in many countries.

Their beliefs and actions are guided by trying to follow the Bible as closely as possible, and although not for everyone, it's only expected by those who have learned and vowed to follow their teachings.

Shame on you Sal for implying that they should be tortured because their belief doesn't match yours.

No Babylon the great is not the UN. The UN is the wild beast in Rev 17:16

Even Paul appealed to Caesar in Acts 25:11. Caeser was the ruler of the beast in Dan 7:7

It is okay to appeal for protection according to international laws. Just like in bible times Paul appealed to Roman laws to further the good news.

It is very sad our sister got tortured. Jehovah loves her very much for what she did.

How barbaric! I am very glad I live in the U.K.,with FREEDOM OF RELIGION. This country should be ashamed of this treatment of CHRISTIAN people! Fear not because Jehovah God will soon set all creation free of wicked rulers where ever they exist.ROMANS CHAPTER 8 VERSES 18-25

The apostle Paul set a precedent followed by true Christians today: when being persecuted, appeal to a higher authority (in his case, Caesar; for this woman, the UN). Paul certainly didn't believe that Caesar was free from bloodguilt or that he was a Christian, and neither need this woman believe that the authority to which she has appealed is innocent.

@Thomas J: JWs believe that the UN is the 'scarlet colored wild beast' of Revelation 17, who, along with all the governments of the earth will destroy Babylon the Great or the 'World Empire of False Religion' (Revelation 17:3, 16, 17). See http://download.jw.org/files/media_magazines/w_E_20120615.pdf , page 15, par. 15-17.

Jehovah's Witnesses DO believe in religious freedom. Each one has a choice to follow what ever religion they choose but if they decide to leave for what ever reason, then like any other organization [or religion for that matter] may have to accept the consequences of their actions.
The Catholic church burnt people alive once for leaving and then later excommunication was the norm. No doubt the Orthodox have penalties as do those who profess Islam if a person becomes too "westernised" as was demonstrated in England recently.
you can't profess to want to be a sheep and join the wolves too.
Like any organization stay or leave but don't expect the same privileges as those who are faithful even if YOU want to "nash your teeth" and cry because you are no longer accepted.

Everything that Sal Homer said about Jehovah's Witnesses is false. The only way to learn what is accurate is to speak with one of Jehovah's Witnesses...not to believe what a disgruntled person repeats that is not true.
17.08.2012 buckley dwyer
The bible is quite clear on the truth, your comment on being disfellowshiped is so untrure. Jehovahs Witnesses are the most loving people i have ever met, keep up the good work
16.08.2012 Thomas j.
Hold on a second...

She complained to the UNITED NATIONS?!? Don't Jehovah's Witnesses believe the UN to be... Babylon the Great?
16.08.2012 Alex
First of all NO ONE should be tortured due to their religion.
The second tragety is that this person thinks that her treatment if proof of her affiliation with the only real religion.
Third interesting fact is she complained to the United Nations. Her religion teaches it is Satans organization that tries to replace Gods theocratic government (really her religion).

Can't have it both ways.

What shame the US and Britain still keep good relations with this criminal evil regime in Uzbekistan.
15.08.2012 Sal Homer
Jehovah’s Witnesses DO NOT believe in religious freedom. If a member a so-called “publisher” discovers falsehoods in the Watchtower teachings and then decides to join another church, he/she will be severely shunned by friends and family in the JW religion. Yes, the Watchtower will sugar-coat this and say that everyone is free to leave at will, but that just IS NOT the case because of the fear of being disfellowshipped. So the Jehovah’s Witnesses are quick to become litigious whenever their “religious freedon” is infringed upon, yet they don’t extend that same freedom to their own members… highly hypocritical.

Jehovah's Witnesses leadership make terrorist's threats of death at Armegeddon, they indoctrinate and will hold your family member *hostage* requiring that the recruit shun former members and those who speak out against the abuses of the cult.
