Uzbek president outraged by new look of Tashkent’s central square
Uznews.net – It turns out that Uzbek President Islam Karimov was outraged by the new look of Tashkent’s central Amir Temur Square when he went to see the results of a recent campaign to cut down century-old trees on 5 December.

Apparently, he did not mean the destruction of the park when he ordered its reconstruction.

Karimov attended a meeting devoted to Uzbekistan’s Constitution Day in the new Uzbekistan palace of forums, which was built on the square this year.

Witnesses say that the president rebuked Tashkent Mayor Abdukahhar Tuhtayev and officials from state environmental protection bodies. According to rumours, some officials were sacked from their posts.

It turned out that Karimov had only ordered to thin trees to open views of the new palace. However, extremely dutiful officials, as always, overdid it.
